What is Quantum-Touch and How is it Different from Reiki?

If you’ve come across Quantum-Touch while researching Reiki, you’re not alone. Reiki has a strong following in Australia and most people searching for energy healing encounter it first. Quantum-Touch tends to come up a little later, and the question that follows is almost always the same: what’s the difference?

Both are energy healing modalities built on the same foundation. They work with the understanding that life-force energy flows through all living beings, and that supporting that flow helps the body find its own balance. Where they differ is in how the practitioner works.

The role of the practitioner

In Reiki, the practitioner acts as a conduit. Universal healing energy flows through them into the recipient, guided by the recipient’s own inner wisdom. They hold specific hand positions over or gently on the body and allow the energy to move where it is needed. It is a quiet, receptive role, and that stillness is central to Reiki’s character.

In Quantum-Touch, the practitioner uses specific breathing techniques and body awareness exercises to amplify and direct life-force energy. The client’s body naturally entrains to the higher vibration, supporting its own capacity to heal. The practitioner is inwardly quite active during a session, even when it looks calm from the outside.

Because the energy also flows through the practitioner as they work, Quantum-Touch tends to leave them feeling energised rather than drained at the end of a session.

Training and initiation

Reiki ability is traditionally conferred through an attunement, a ritual performed by a Reiki Master that activates the student’s capacity to channel Reiki energy. This initiation is considered essential to the tradition.

Quantum-Touch requires no initiation. Students learn a set of breathing techniques and body awareness practices and begin using them straight away. No symbols, no ceremony, no prerequisite background. Many people find it accessible from the very first workshop.

Neither approach is more valid than the other. They simply reflect different traditions and philosophies about how healing ability develops.

Distance healing and animals

Both modalities offer distance healing, working on the principle that energy is not limited by physical space. Both are also widely used with animals, which tend to respond readily and often quite noticeably.

I spent 17 years as a professional zookeeper before moving into healing work, and watching how animals carry and respond to energy was a formative part of that experience. Distance sessions suit animals particularly well because they stay in their own familiar environment and are often more settled as a result.

Can they be used together?

Yes, and many practitioners do. Both modalities work with life-force energy and complement each other naturally. Reiki practitioners who have explored Quantum-Touch often find the breathwork and body awareness techniques add real depth to sessions they have been running for years. The two traditions are not in competition.

A note from me

I have been working with Quantum-Touch since 2007 and have been a certified practitioner and instructor since 2013. I hold genuine respect for Reiki and for the practitioners working within that tradition. My own practice is grounded in Quantum-Touch because it is the system I trained in and know most deeply.

If you are new to energy healing, follow what resonates. Both paths have real depth. If Quantum-Touch feels interesting, the What is Quantum-Touch? page is a good next step, and I am always happy to answer questions.
